Why These 3 Traits Are Invaluable For Your Life
Some people impacted my life the most and made me imbibe these worthy traits
New Year is around the corner — an opportunity to enjoy with people at midnight, make a resolution, and hope for the best.
The time’s also to reflect, to grow, to relearn. Introspect on how far you have come and how you have evolved over the course of a year. What you cherished and what you regret.
There are various changes I noticed in myself.
When festivals like Diwali and Christmas rolled up, I realised I had lost the magical excitement I once possessed.
Perhaps, I was too busy with exams. Perhaps, my perception changed. Perhaps, I got a hint of the essence of adulting.
It saddens me.
I evolved in various other ways too, my favourite being the following.
1. Laughing easily and at oneself
Once upon a time, I held my morals rather too stringently. I used to be offended at the slightest grey jokes immediately. Nothing was ‘just jokes.’
Stand-up comedy on dark topics was something I avoided keenly.
This year, some of my company changed.
Talking with these new people with an apparently great sense of humour, I faced an option.
To stay offended every moment, or to partake in the jokes and enjoy them along (including those aimed at me).
The former option left a bad taste in my mouth.
So, I gave a shot at loosening up. My days are much more funnier and wholesome now.
Laughter is wine for the soul - laughter soft, or loud and deep, tinged through with seriousness - the hilarious declaration made by man that life is worth living.
― Sean O'Casey
What's more, I learned to take jokes at one’s own expense gracefully.
Laughing has innumerable benefits, from improving your mood to increasing your lifespan. This year, even in my lowest times, I could laugh, and boy, did it help!
2. The power of perseverance
We love instant results, instant food, instant energy.
Trusting the process doesn’t go well with our instincts. We leave our goals unfinished because of our obsession with the immediate.
This year, witnessing the power of perseverance inspired me throughout.
I know someone who has been working hard for the end for years. There have been times to celebrate and there have been times to despair; the person has kept going unceasingly.
As a parable, life poses distractions from the goals you wish to accomplish.
Hold onto your commitments and your destination will feel closer.
Flicker like lights, and so will your dreams.
Self-discipline is the only magic which can happen in your life.
Tenacity wins over sporadic bursts of inspiration.
3. Understanding my emotions
I have always felt life with an open, bleeding heart.
The good times get transformed into stupendous because of my positive perception and gratitude. However, even slight disturbances in my normal life have made me panic.
As I matured, I learned to regulate my emotions.
Life’s transient. Almost nothing that happens is going to bother me in the long run.
I have grown less afraid of imperfection (and hence facing disapproving looks); I wouldn’t even remember them by the next week.
Whenever my heart tears, I let myself sob and sulk rather than shut it up.
Life will have thorns; I must embrace the fact than always expect sunshine.
I don’t feel things any less, but I have stopped overanalysing them; I find it preferable for them to run through my veins before they go away.
With this new beginning, what new do YOU observe in yourself?
Life takes unexpected turns.
Changes are hard to accept, but they make up our short term on earth.
You must have had your share of surprises and changes. Think about this year. Let the moments flash by. What inspired or broke you? Who kept your soul afloat? Which times are the most cherished?
Let me know your thoughts!
Here’s my wish to you for a Happy New Year and gratitude for reading my works :)

1. Do you choose happiness or being right?
I have a younger brother. Initially, we had a loving bond. That was a time when he couldn’t speak or think for himself. He was just a cute doll I could play with. We grew differences as we grew up. Then, my parents advised me something. Read more…
2. Cutting the String & the Stress of a Toxic Relationship
A year and some months ago, I noticed a change in my best friend. When her giddy laughs used to resonate in the air, suddenly, her mood turned sour. When her stories used to excite us all, now, she had nothing to say. When her kind eyes loomed upon you, they had transformed into apathetic balls. Read more…
